A total of 13,191 accidents were recorded last year, highlighting ongoing pressure on the country’s road network. Despite the high numbers, recent data suggests a slight improvement, with accidents dropping by nearly 7% during the final three months of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024.
Road injuries also declined, falling by 10.8% to 332 casualties in that same timeframe, signalling a modest but positive trend.
The Northern Harbour district once again topped the list of accident hotspots, accounting for around 1,200 collisions or roughly a third of all reported incidents.
While the statistics show Malta’s roads are still under significant strain, the latest figures hint at gradual progress in improving road safety.
