Malta ranked the EU’s biggest user of generative AI

Malta isn’t just embracing artificial intelligence.

Malta has officially been ranked as the European Union’s biggest user of generative AI, according to the latest Eurobarometer survey.

The findings reveal that 38% of people in Malta use generative AI every day in their personal lives, making the country the highest daily user across all EU member states. By comparison, the European average stands at just 20%, meaning Malta’s adoption rate is almost double that of the rest of the bloc.

Generative AI tools, including chatbots such as ChatGPT, AI image generators and writing assistants, have rapidly become part of everyday life for many Maltese users. People are increasingly relying on these technologies for work, studying, content creation, brainstorming ideas, planning trips, writing emails and improving productivity.

The results reflect how quickly AI has moved beyond being a niche technology and become a mainstream tool used by thousands across the country.

As AI continues to evolve, Malta appears to be positioning itself at the forefront of Europe’s digital transformation.
