Leonardo DiCaprio and the Bezoses Launch $200 Million Wildlife Project

A major new conservation initiative has been launched to protect species at risk of extinction.

Leonardo DiCaprio, Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez Bezos have launched the Phoenix Species Project, a $200 million initiative that aims to protect 100 threatened species across 30 countries.

The project will support long-term recovery programmes involving scientists, Indigenous communities and conservation organisations. Its work is expected to cover mammals, birds, marine life and plants facing serious threats to their survival.

By combining scientific research, local knowledge and substantial private funding, the initiative hopes to restore vulnerable wildlife populations and protect the habitats on which they depend.

It is being described as one of the largest privately funded conservation initiatives ever announced.
