Jennifer Lawrence Confirms Her Return As Katniss In New Hunger Games Film

Katniss Everdeen is heading back to the big screen, and Jennifer Lawrence says returning to the role brought plenty of emotion.

The actress has confirmed that she will appear in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, reuniting with Josh Hutcherson and Woody Harrelson.

Speaking on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Lawrence described stepping back into the franchise alongside her former co-stars as an emotional experience. Hutcherson returns as Peeta Mellark, while Harrelson reprises his role as Haymitch Abernathy.

The reunion comes more than a decade after The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 reached cinemas in 2015.

However, the familiar trio will not be the focus of the new film. Sunrise on the Reaping takes place 24 years before the original story and explores a younger Haymitch’s experience competing in the 50th Hunger Games.

For anyone who followed Katniss and Peeta’s journey from the beginning, seeing the original stars together again promises an extra dose of nostalgia.
