The euro banknotes in your wallet could eventually look very different.
The European Central Bank has presented possible designs for the next generation of euro banknotes as work continues towards giving the currency a major visual update.
The ECB is also giving the public a chance to have its say as part of the process of selecting the new designs.
The next generation of notes is expected to feature improved security while also being more durable and sustainable than the banknotes currently in circulation.
The redesign process has explored themes intended to better represent Europe, its culture and shared identity, while ensuring the notes remain easily recognisable and accessible to people across the euro area.
A winning design is expected to be selected later this year, although that does not mean the new notes will immediately start appearing in our wallets.
Once the final design is chosen, further technical preparations will still be required before the new banknotes can eventually enter circulation.
So while your current euros are not disappearing just yet, a fresh look for Europe’s currency is getting closer.
