What if your next medical prescription was a trip abroad? Sweden is making headlines after launching a unique wellness initiative that positions the country itself as something doctors can recommend for better health.
The campaign highlights how time in nature, slower living and social habits like fika can support mental and physical wellbeing. Built around the growing concept of social prescribing, the initiative encourages people to explore outdoor activities such as forest walks, cold water swimming and digital detox experiences instead of relying only on traditional treatments.

Backed by medical experts, the project aims to spark conversations about preventative health and lifestyle changes. Sweden’s tourism authorities say the idea blends science with travel, promoting clean air, quiet environments and meaningful human connection as tools to reduce stress and improve overall quality of life.
While the “prescription” does not cover travel costs, it reflects a wider shift toward wellness focused tourism, where destinations are marketed not just for sightseeing but for how they make visitors feel.
