Tim Burton Has An Animated Project In The Works

Tim Burton has revealed that he is developing another animated project, raising the possibility of a return to the format behind some of his most distinctive films.

The filmmaker discussed the project in a 2025 interview with Mexican outlet Milenio. At the time, he said he was excited about the idea and hoped to have a script ready before taking the next steps.

Although the comments have attracted renewed attention, they date back to last year. They should therefore be treated as an early development update rather than a newly announced production.

Burton’s most recent animated feature as director was Frankenweenie, released in 2012. His animation credits also include co-directing Corpse Bride and producing The Nightmare Before Christmas, which was directed by Henry Selick.

The reports do not reveal a title, storyline or release date for the project.

For fans of Burton’s unusual characters and wonderfully strange worlds, though, the prospect of another animated film is certainly one to watch.
