For anyone who takes grilling seriously, this might be the perfect university course.
A university in China has launched a three-year diploma programme dedicated entirely to barbecue, recognising grilling as a professional culinary skill rather than simply a hobby.
Students reportedly study everything from heat control and ingredient selection to flavour development, food preparation and practical grilling techniques. The programme reflects the growing demand for skilled barbecue chefs in regions where grilling is a major part of local food culture and hospitality.
Rather than focusing only on recipes, the course aims to teach the science, technique and business behind producing high-quality barbecue.
It may sound unusual, but with the barbecue industry continuing to grow, graduates could find themselves entering a profession with strong demand.
Would you sign up for a barbecue degree?
